A small sea town at the Southern tip of Yucatan, Tulum has plenty to offer, including sky blue ocean, white sand, stylish boutique hotels, jungle adventures and historical sites. Everyone should find themselves in Tulum at least once in their lifetime.
THINGS TO DO
EXPLORE THE BEACH SIDE
There are so many stylish boutique hotels, restaurants and beach clubs by the ocean, take a long leisurely stroll up and down this beach stretch to take in the views and feel the beating heart of Tulum.
SWIM IN CENOTES ON THE JUNGLE SIDE OF TULUM
Swimming in a cenote in the middle of the jungle is the most unique experience you can have in Tulum. There are over 6000 cenotes in Yucatan peninsula. Sparkling blue water surrounded by all green makes for a magical site on a sunny day in Tulum.
BIKE TO TULUM RUINS
Taking a bike to Tulum ruins is another adventure to be had in Tulum. The Mayans definitely made a right decision choosing Tulum as their home base. Those ancient structures overlooking the sky blue ocean and jungle make a perfect postcard from Mexico.
WHERE TO STAY
RADHOO TULUM – Located on the jungle side of zona hotelera, Radhoo Tulum offers a very stylish and serene getaway. You can easily spend a whole day lazying around the pool listening to their tropical tunes. They also serve the most delicious breakfast that I’d look forward to every morning. Since it’s a sister hotel of La Valise, we even got to enjoy a complimentary massage by the ocean at La Valise.
LA VALISE TULUM – If you dream of staying at the beach side of Tulum, La Valise will make a terrific choice being a gorgeous, upscale hotel with its private beach area.
NATIVUS GLAMPING – This is a rugged and adventurous glamping site by a cenote. You’ll see plenty of big crabs walking around the property and there’s even a crocodile family living at the cenote. This stay is definitely not for the faint of heart knowing there might be a crocodile swimming under your kayak or having to use your open concept bathroom right in the jungle. Nonetheless, you will definitely come out of this glamping experience with some interesting stories to tell.
FOOD
MATCHA MAMA – Instafamous Matcha Mama serves some delicious bowls and smoothies. Prepare to beat all of the influencers and bloggers to the only five swinging chairs here.
LA TAQUERIA PINCHES TACOS SHOP – These tacos are some of the best at zona hotelera. We’d go down to La Taqueria almost every night to munch on these tacos.
MEZZANINE THAI – While biking towards Tulum ruins, we discovered Mezzanine Thai. This place served beautiful Thai dishes right by the ocean. It was one of our favorite meals in Tulum. If you want to give the Mexican food a break, I highly recommend this lovely Thai restaurant.
KIN TOH (AZULIK) – You go to Kin Toh for an experience and atmosphere. This is definitely one very beautifully designed property with wooden bridges going over the jungle connecting nests to the main tree house. I came here for cocktails with friends and we had a great time exploring the place, laying on their giant net at the tree house, walking on bridges and even seeing the gallery downstairs.
